A Hart County man is facing attempted murder, methamphetamine trafficking and other felony charges after police responded to a domestic disturbance near Munfordville.

Late Tuesday night, the Hart County Sheriff’s Office and Kentucky State Police responded to 695 L&N Turnpike, about two miles south of Munfordville, on the report of a domestic assault, according to the sheriff’s office.

Upon arriving at the scene, authorities discovered the female victim, “who sustained injuries,” had fled the scene. Police said the suspect, 45-year-old Warren Johnson, of Munfordville, attempted to leave the area but he drove his vehicle into a ditch and returned to the residence. And at some point, the sheriff’s office said, he shot himself in the hand.

Based on the charges and investigating agencies (including the Greater Hardin Co. Narcotics Task Force), officers apparently located a significant quantity of drugs during the investigation.

Johnson was arrested and charged with attempted murder (domestic violence), second-degree assault (domestic violence), first-degree wanton endangerment, trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), acquiring property from income from trafficking in a controlled substance, trafficking in marijuana (more than five pounds), and possession of drug paraphernalia.

All the drug charges are enhanced due to the presence of a firearm.

He was transported to Caverna Memorial Hospital before being transferred to University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of his gunshot wound.

Johnson was then lodged in the Hart County Jail on two bonds totaling $400,000 cash.

The Munfordville and Horse Cave Police Departments assisted in the investigation.
