Providers and managers of water systems in Grayson County have been awarded nearly $1 million to upgrade those systems.

Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman announced that $970, 559 in funding was awarded to the Grayson County Water District, the cities of Leitchfield, Caneyville and Clarkson as well as the Edmonson County Water District, which has provided water to a portion of Grayson County since 1967.

The funding comes through Gov. Andy Beshear’s Cleaner Water Program.

As part of Beshear’s Better Kentucky Plan, the Cleaner Water Program is funded by the American Rescue Plan Act and administered by the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority. At the close of the 2021 General Assembly session, $250 million was appropriated through a bipartisan agreement for clean drinking water and wastewater grants to fund projects across Kentucky.

The program awarded:

  • $409,305 to the Grayson County Water District (GCWD) for improvements to the Caneyville water system (the GCWD recently took over management of the Caneyville water system).
  • $306,500 to the city of Leitchfield for upgraded customer meters.
  • $166,112 to Edmonson County Water District for improved service to 1,500 households and new service to four households.
  • $63,642 to the city of Caneyville to replace water lines.
  • $25,000 to the city of Clarkson to purchase three new pumps and new water testing supplies.
