One Grayson County man has been critically injured and another seriously hurt after a vehicle slammed into the back of an Amish buggy in Wax.
Monday afternoon at approximately 4:10, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Clay Boone, the Wax Fire Department and EMS responded to the accident in the 5300 block of Wax Road.
Upon arriving at the scene, first responders found a northbound Toyota Camry being driven by an elderly male had struck the rear of an Amish buggy containing two men. The impact tossed the buggy about 90 feet into a grassy area. Both men were ejected from the buggy.
It appears from marks at the scene that the elderly driver failed to see the carriage until he was about 20 feet away.
The most seriously injured of the two men, who suffered an apparent head injury, was airlifted from nearby St. Benedict Catholic Church to University of Louisville Hospital. The other buggy occupant was transported by EMS to Baptist Health Hardin.
The elderly driver was uninjured, but his wife suffered a cut to her head and was taken by private means to Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center.
The horse pulling the buggy was unhurt.
In November 2021, only a few hundred yards north of this accident, a vehicle rolled through a stop sign and collided with an Amish buggy at the intersection of Grayson Springs Road and Wax Road. Fortunately, there were no injuries.
