A Shelby County man has been indicted on nearly a dozen child sexual abuse charges by three grand juries in three Kentucky counties after grand jury presentations by the Kentucky Attorney General’s Office’s Special Prosecutions Unit.

Darrin A. Owens, 38, of Shelbyville, was indicted by grand juries in Trimble, Oldham, and Henry counties on child sexual abuse charges related to one juvenile in each county, Attorney General Daniel Cameron said.

Cameron’s office pursued the indictments due to the “severity of the allegations.”

  • In Trimble County, Owens was indicted on four counts of first-degree sodomy, two counts of second-degree rape and being a persistent felony offender.
  • In Oldham County, the suspect was indicted for first-degree sodomy, third-degree rape and being a persistent felony offender.
  • In Henry County, he was indicted on two counts of first-degree sodomy, first-degree rape and being a persistent felony offender.

The Henry County Grand Jury, which was the last body to indict Owens, has issued a warrant for his arrest. Owens has been lodged in the Carroll County Detention Center since early October 2021.
