A Kentucky State Trooper has been shot multiple times in central Kentucky.
The shooting occurred Friday afternoon at approximately 4:20 on Delta Court, a mobile home park in Cynthiana, about 28 miles north of Lexington.
The trooper, who has not yet been identified, was conducting a traffic stop at the time of the shooting. He was wearing a bullet proof vest.
The trooper was rushed to Harrison Memorial Hospital by a Kentucky Fish & Wildlife officer and then taken by ambulance, with an escort of several police vehicles, to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington, according to Kentucky State Police.
KSP Captain Paul Blanton said the trooper was “responsive” after the shooting and is listed in stable condition.
Witnesses tell news outlets that up to 20 shots were fired during the exchange of gunfire, with one outlet reporting the trooper emptied his firearm shooting at the suspect.
The suspect, who is from Lexington, has been identified by police but has not yet been captured.
The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the shooting.
