The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office announced on Friday that the agency has a new, four-legged team member designated to help combat the drug problem in the community.

Sheriff Norman Chaffins said his office has acquired a K-9 Officer, Zeus, a one-year-old East German Shepherd.

Zeus replaces the agency’s first K-9 Officer, Marco, who retired in the spring of 2020 and passed away in December 2021.

“(Zeus) is our latest tool in our effort to fight the war on drugs in our community,” Chaffins said. “He may also be used for other purposes as he progresses in his training. Zeus LOVES to work and play and will, no doubt, be a great asset to our community.”

Zeus’ handler will be Deputy Sean Fentress, according to Chaffins.

“Zeus will live with Sean and his family for the duration that Sean remains his handler, or until Zeus retires,” the sheriff stated.

Fentress and Zeus will train together over the next several weeks before hitting the streets.

“We look forward to showcasing Zeus when he completes his training,” Chaffins said.
