Grayson County voters at all 22 precincts will cast ballots on new voting machines in the 2022 Primary Election.

Grayson County Clerk Charlotte Willis informed magistrates at Tuesday’s Fiscal Court meeting that the 22 new machines will be delivered on January 25. The current machines, Willis said, are “wore out … (and) we can’t get replacement parts.”

The machines being replaced have been in service for about 20 years.

Initially, Willis thought the machines may not be delivered in time to train election workers on how to operate the new machines prior to the May 2022 Primary Election.

The cost of the new machines is $258,825, with Willis noting she applied for and received a grant that will reimburse the county $48,400 for the purchase. Magistrates voted in November to approve the purchase of the machines for $210,425 ($258,825 – $48,400 in grant money). That total will be financed through Magnolia Bank for five years at 2.85 percent interest.

It’s possible, Willis said, the county could receive additional grant money. She’ll know whether more money is available on December 10.
