A former Boyd County Detention Center has been sentenced to 15-years in prison for his role in the death of an inmate in 2018.

Brad Roberts, a former sergeant at the jail, was convicted of reckless homicide and 16 counts of criminal abuse in the death of 40-year-old Michael Moore, of Ashland, who had been arrested for public intoxication.

Moore, who was found unresponsive in the cell hours after being booked into the facility, died of blunt force trauma at the jail three days after he was arrested.

He had been strapped into a restraint chair for several hours, with video surveillance showing deputy jailers flipping the chair upside down. Video also showed Moore being thrown into a chair; being body-slammed on the floor and falling from the top bunk of his bed.

Three other former guards will also stand trial in the case.
