The driver of a dump truck escaped injury after the vehicle collided with a train at the intersection of Beaver Dam Road and Quarry Road at approximately 3:45 Wednesday afternoon.

Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins arrived at the accident scene in less than two minutes. The sheriff evaluated the situation and determined there were no injuries before turning the scene over to Leitchfield Police Department Sgt. Robert Jackson, Officers Bart Glenn and Chase Melton along with railroad officials, who arrived shortly after Chaffins.

According to police, the slow-moving P&L train, comprised of three locomotives, was traveling east when a Brownsville-based Woosley dump truck turned left onto Quarry Road from Beaver Dam Road and into the path of the train.

The train clipped the rear of the dump truck and spun the vehicle off the tracks where it narrowly missed a small track side building and sign pole. The dump truck nearly flipped onto its side, according to a witness.

The driver, police said, did not see the approaching train. Although the railroad crossing is equipped with flashing lights, there is no crossbar.

The dump truck was empty at the time of the accident.
