A statewide daytime Burn Ban went into effect Friday morning.

Kentucky’s fall forest fire hazard season begins October 1, rendering it illegal to burn near a woodland or brushland between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. The daytime burn ban lasts until December 15.

Under state law, no burning can take place within 150 feet of a woodland or brushland until after 6:00 p.m., according to the Kentucky Department of Forestry (KDF).

Authorities also remind people that if burning during allowable hours, the fires should be attended until they are extinguished.

The penalty for violating the burn ban is a maximum $500 fine.
