A Hardin County woman has been charged with murder.
The Elizabethtown Police Department arrested 32-year-old Loni K. Drumm, of Elizabethtown, Friday afternoon and charged her with fatally shooting 40-year-old Shedrick T. Byrd at a residence in the 1200 block of Woodland Drive, according to a report by The News-Enterprise. The two had a domestic relationship, police told the newspaper.
Officers were dispatched to the residence Friday morning about 9:20 on the report of a shooting. Upon arriving, officers found Byrd and Drumm covered in blood, as Byrd had suffered a gunshot wound to his upper left arm. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Hardin County EMS.
Drumm told police she had returned to the home from purchasing cigarettes and found Byrd shot.
Police, though, investigated the shooting and later accused Drumm of shooting Byrd. The suspect admitted to police that she and Byrd got into an altercation, with Drumm striking Byrd with the handgun. When Byrd tried to get away, Drumm said she shot him.
Drumm then gave the weapon to a neighbor and asked the person to get rid of the gun. But the person turned the firearm over to police.
Drumm was charged with murder (domestic violence) and tampering with physical evidence and lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center on a $500,000 bond.
