A crash involving a Jefferson County school bus on Tuesday morning left 14 students injured and killed the driver of a passenger vehicle, officials said.
A red Kia, being driven by 32 year old Shan’I A. Newberry, hit the bus as it was attempting to cross Ballardsville Road in eastern Jefferson County, Louisville Metro Police spokeswoman Beth Ruoff told news outlets. Newberry was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The bus was carrying about 60 students to Ballard High School and Kammerer Middle School, Jefferson County Public Schools spokesperson Renee Murphy said.
A total of 14 children were treated at area hospitals and all were in good condition, Norton Healthcare spokeswoman Maggie Roetker said.
Several people witnessed the crash but left the scene prior to law enforcement arriving. Police are asking that anyone who witnessed the crash to contact Louisville police.
