A Hardin County man has been arrested by the FBI for his alleged role in the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Federal authorities said Joseph Irwin, of Cecilia, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with unlawful entry and disorderly conduct in a restricted building, and disorderly conduct and parading/demonstrating in the Capitol building.

Irwin is the second man from Cecilia arrested in the Capitol insurrection after 43-year-old Michael N. Sparks was arrested in January and charged with unlawful entry, disorderly conduct and obstructing law enforcement.

In 2015, Irwin was briefly a deputy with the Hardin County Sheriff’s Office.

More than a dozen Kentuckians have been arrested for rioting at the Capitol.
