Officials with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) said its board of regents voted to freeze tuition at its current rate across the state.

Officials said one major factor behind the move is the financial hardships many families are facing due to the pandemic.

“The board wanted to help students, and we felt keeping our tuition at the same rate would help thousands of families,” KCTCS board chair Gail Henson said.

Included in KCTCS’s tuition freeze is Elizabethtown Community and Technical College as well as its campus in Leitchfield.

President of the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education Aaron Thompson praised the move as he recognized many Kentuckians continue to face pandemic-driven financial challenges.

“Even with our rally, many students still face extreme financial hardships that could derail their education. That’s why I want to thank KCTCS for holding the line on tuition,” he said. “Their leadership and commitment to affordability helps ensure that we don’t leave anyone behind.”

The current rate at KCTCS is $179 per credit hour for in-state students, $358 per credit hour for students in out-of-state counties bordering Kentucky, and $627 per credit hour for all other out-of-state students.
