The Grayson County Middle School track and field team closed their season on Saturday with a strong performance at the KTCCCA Middle School State in Louisville.
As a team, the middle school boys finished 22nd with the girls finishing in 28th.
High finishers for the Cougars included Houston Brooks (3rd in the 800m/4th in the 1600m), Raylee Shepherd (5th in discus), Amelia Hayes (6th in pole vault), Zach Pierce (10th in pole vault), Presley Jackson (17th in the 100m hurdles), and Gracie Portman (21st in 1600m/24th in the 800m).
On Saturday, the high school team will compete in the KHSAA Class AAA state championship at the University of Kentucky. Automatic qualifiers for the meet include Dylan Gibson, Amelia Hayes, and the 4×200 relay team of Luke Gallagher, Evan Hayse, Joseph Beasley, and Dominic Vigil.
Following the completion of regional meets from across the state, the Cougars gained two more entries into the competition. The boys 4x800m team (Luke Gallagher, Tanner Hayes, Joseph Beasley, Peyton Nash) and Peyton Nash (3200m) each gained at-large bids.
The state championship meet will begin at 10:00 am ET in Lexington.
