A Leitchfield day care has been heavily damaged by a fire.
Monday morning at 8:10, the Leitchfield Fire Department responded to The Play Zone at 204 Marion Street, which was closed for Memorial Day. Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found heavy smoke billowing from the building. Firefighters made entry and battled the blaze for over an hour, containing the fire to one room of the day care.
Two rooms were left untouched by the flames.
LFD Chief Tim Duvall said it appears the fire began in the kitchen and was likely electrical in nature.
No injuries were reported and Leitchfield fire personnel cleared the scene at 10:09.
Duvall said the state Fire Marshal’s Office will be on scene Tuesday morning to conduct further investigation.
