Grayson County High School tennis’s Owen Brown finished as the 3rd Region runner-up after an upset of a higher-ranked player in the semifinals.

Brown took down the #2 seed in a third-set tiebreaker. In the championship match, he fell to Owensboro’s Dylan Mather who was the #1 seed entering the tournament.

With the finish, Brown clinches a spot in the KHSAA state tournament. Joining him in Lexington will be Maxton Cummings and Izzy Weedman.

Cummings lost to Mather in the semifinals while Weedman lost to the eventual girls champion in the semis as well.

In addition, Cummings was also named the winner of the Luke Woodward Sportsmanship award.

Other regional action for Grayson County saw the doubles’ team of Woosley and Elmore lose in the quarterfinals, just missing out on a state qualification.

The 2021 KHSAA state tournament will be held June 1st through 3rd in Lexington.
