Grayson County football team announces end-of-season awards; 10 players recognized overall

The Grayson County High School football team has recognized multiple players for its’ end of season awards.

The team, which finished 5-3 in a COVID-19 shortened season, was led by first-year head coach Bryan Jones. The Cougar boys made the playoffs for the third consecutive year before falling to Graves County in the first round.

Three members of the team, Zack Bratcher, Mason Miller, and Caden Woodcock, have signed to play college football at Campbellsville University next season. Another graduating senior, Lane Pohlman, will compete on the Campbellsville Bass Fishing team. 

The complete award winners for the 2020 Cougars include:

Iron Cougar Award – Hunter Harper and Levi Martin

Scout Team Player of the Year – Keaton Hodges

Outstanding Freshman – Jeren VanMeter

Outstanding Sophomore – Sawyer Drake

Outstanding Junior – Hunter Tomes

Outstanding Senior – Caden Woodcock

“Hawg” Award for Outstanding Lineman – Hunter Harper

Academic Award – Kaylor Decker

Unsung Hero Award – Mason Miller

Kevin Embry Award – Kaylor Decker (For a junior who “exemplifies the characteristics and qualities as a player and teammate that we want in the Cougar football program)

Outstanding Teammate Award – Zack Bratcher

The 2021 Cougar football team will open the regular season on the road on August 20th against former head coach Ed Smart and Edmonson County.
