A Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) officer has been accused of breaking into the home of his girlfriend armed with a handgun and beating her over a period of several hours.

Robert D. Jones Jr., 25, was arrested Friday and charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree unlawful imprisonment, and fourth-degree assault.

Jones, who entered LMPD recruit school in February 2018, pushed his way into the home while holding a firearm and locked the door behind him. He held a gun to the woman’s head, leaving a mark on her forehead, punched the woman in the face, and pinned her down on a bed as she screamed for Siri to call 911, according to media reports.

Jones berated and beat the woman for not returning his phone calls and for cheating on him.

At one point during the three-hour assault, Jones locked the woman in the basement where he continued to beat the victim.

Louisville Police Chief Erika Shields issued a statement following Jones’ arrest, saying “The department fully respects the judicial process, but to be clear, acts of domestic violence by employees will not be tolerated at any level.”

Jones was lodged in Louisville Metro Corrections on a $30,000 bond.

He has been reassigned pending an investigation by LMPD’s Public Integrity Unit.
