Grayson County High School senior basketball players Gracie Franklin and Mason Galloway have been awarded the Ronnie Hardin Memorial Scholarship.

The scholarship, which is $500 each, is given by the 3rd Region basketball officials in honor of former official Ronnie Hardin who tragically died in 2014. For the first time, one boy and one girl from each of the four districts in the region were gifted the scholarship.

The funding for it comes from a yearly golf scramble that is held in Muhlenberg County where Hardin was from.

Gracie Franklin was the girls’ basketball representative for the 12th District. She plays basketball and softball for the Lady Cougars. Next year, she plans to head to Murray State University where she will major in pre-pharmacy.

“(Gracie) is well-deserving of this scholarship,” said Lady Cougar head coach Ted Hill. “She worked hard in basketball and that work ethic will carry over to college. She will be successful in whatever.”

Mason Galloway was given the boys’ scholarship. He will be attending ECTC next season where he hopes to become a history teacher and a high school coach.

“Mason is absolutely deserving of this scholarship,” said Cougar basketball head coach Travis Johnston. “He is one of the best people and teammates that we’ve had and I wish him the best in the future.”

In addition to the GCHS basketball coaches, the ceremony was also attended by Tony Embry, Bob Crawford, Jeff Majors, Norman Chaffins, and Norman Jennings who are all officials from Grayson County.
