Fewer than 900 new COVID cases in KY, 27 deaths. Positivity rate up, hospitalizations down

Over the weekend, Gov. Andy Beshear reported a combined 871 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Kentucky on Saturday (505) and Sunday (366).

The new cases increase the state’s COVID-19 victim count to 433,085 (about one case per 10.2 Kentucky residents).

Officials reported a combined 27 coronavirus deaths (includes nine audit deaths) over the weekend, raising the commonwealth’s death toll to 6,250 (1.4 percent fatality rate).

The rolling seven-day positivity rate rose from Friday’s 2.79 percent to 3.08 percent on Sunday.

Hospitalizations decreased by three patients to 379, while the number of people in intensive care fell by 14 to 92. Victims on ventilators declined by nine people to 51.

Since the onset of the pandemic, 21,179 (4.9 percent) people have been hospitalized, with 4,386 (one percent) patients treated in intensive care.

At least 50,410 (11.6 percent) Kentuckians have recovered from the virus.

Officials said over 1.5 million Kentuckians have received at least one coronavirus vaccine.
