A Leitchfield man under the influence of a substance has been arrested after trying to break into the Grayson County Detention Center (GCDC) and then fighting with police.
Monday morning at approximately 5:45, Leitchfield Police Dept. Sgt. Keith Harrell and Officer DJ Newton were dispatched to the detention center after GCDC staff members reported that someone was on the property and trying to enter the building.
Upon Harrell and Newton arriving, they observed 41-year-old Michael A. Pressley, outside the jail as he appeared to be attempting to enter, and trying to communicate with inmates. Seeing the officers, Pressley began incoherently yelling as he ran from police.
Pressley fled toward Baillie Lumber Co. for about 400 yards, police said, before Harrell and Newton were able to catch him. At that point Pressley, who’s about six foot, three inches tall and weighs around 230 pounds, began fighting with the officers who then took the suspect to the ground, injuring Harrell.
Pressley was arrested and charged resisting arrest and public intoxication (excludes alcohol) and lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
Harrell was treated for his injuries and released.
