A Marion County teacher has been indicted on over 20 child rape and other sex-related charges.
Matthew Edwards, 31, of Greensburg, was a teacher at the Marion County Area Technology Center in Lebanon. He was arrested on Monday and charged with 22 counts of third-degree rape and two counts of prohibited use of an electronic communication system to procure a minor for sex.
The Lebanon Enterprise reports that, according to the indictment, between August 2019 and December 2019, Edwards, on 22 occasions, “engaged in sexual intercourse with a minor, who was at least 10 years younger than him.” The indictment also states Edwards was a “person in a position of authority or position of special trust when he engaged in sexual intercourse with the minor who was younger than 18-years-old.”
Edwards, who worked as an industrial maintenance instructor at the tech center, is also accused of, during the same time, knowingly using a communication system to procure a minor for sex.
Edwards was arrested and lodged in the Marion County Detention Center but has since been released on a $5,000 bond.
