Clarkson Elementary wins District Governor’s Cup competition, Caneyville Elem. comes in second

Grayson County elementary schools recently competed in District Governor’s Cup academic team competition, with Clarkson Elementary School winning the championship, and Caneyville Elementary School coming in a close second.

The event looked a little different this year, as it was held over several days through a combination of Google Meets, online assessments, online buzzer systems, and digital documents. Each team competed from their home school, with Caneyville hosting the competition.

In Quick Recall, Clarkson placed first and Caneyville second, with Caneyville winning the Future Problem Solving event.

Individual medals for Written Assessment were awarded to students district-wide, including the following Clarkson students: Tyler Hodges (first in Math), Hayden Hodges (tied for fourth in Science), Landry Crowder and Tyler Hodges (tied for first in Social Studies), Landry Crowder (tied for fifth in Language Arts), Callie Schlosser (second in Arts and Humanities), Jack Bratcher (fourth in Arts and Humanities), Collyns Elmore (third in Composition), and Callie Schlosser (fourth in Composition).

Caneyville medal winners were Jessy Smith (fifth in Math), Kaylie Linton (third in Science), Levi Scott (third in Social Studies), Kaylie Linton (second in Language Arts), Channing Peters (third in Language Arts), and Channing Peters (first in Arts and Humanities).

Lawler Elementary School medal winners were Jackson Davis (second in Math), Anthony Linton (third in Math), Jackson Davis (second in Science), Carson Miller (tied for fourth in Science), Sid Rose (fourth in Social Studies), Beth Fraim (fourth in Language Arts), Gabby Stevenson (third in Arts and Humanities), Jordyn Perkins (second in Composition), and Abby Baker (fifth in Composition).

Wilkey Elementary School medal winners were Cooper Justis (first in Science, fourth in Math), Skylar Chhor (fifth in Social Studies), Peyton Early (first in Language Arts), Brennon Burns (fifth in Language Arts), and Peyton Early (first in Composition).

Regional competition begins this week and will be hosted by Wilkey.

Clarkson is coached by Julie Decker and Felicia Higdon, while Caneyville is coached by Laura Day and Brittany Smith.
