The Caneyville man arrested on February 4 after having a DUI wreck and fighting with people trying to help him has again been arrested after assaulting a woman and holding her against her will.

Wednesday night at approximately 9:00, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Fred Norder and Deputies Jason Luedke and Andy Vincent responded to McStoots Road in Caneyville after 26-year-old Daniel L. Craine assaulted a woman as well as the victim’s pets.

Upon arriving at the scene, police discovered Craine had fled the residence on foot into a wooded area, according to the arrest citation. “Due to snow on the ground,” Vincent and Norder tracked Craine for nearly a quarter-mile before detaining the suspect.

According to the citation, the victim had a “spot on her forehead that was the size of a golf ball,” and the victim’s face was covered in blood.

The victim informed police that she and Craine began verbally arguing, but the argument soon escalated into a physical altercation, with the victim attempting to leave the residence. Craine, though, “pushed her to the ground … and then hit her on the forehead with a closed fist while she was pinned to the couch” as she attempted to call a relative “in hopes to get help,” the citation states.

Craine is also accused of throwing the victim’s cat down a hallway and punching her dogs “as they were being protective” of the victim.

The suspect was arrested and charged with fourth-degree assault (domestic violence), first-degree unlawful imprisonment, second-degree cruelty to animals, intimidating a participant in the legal process, and alcohol intoxication in a public place.

Craine was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.

Earlier this month, Craine had a DUI wreck in on Yeaman Road.

Upon law enforcement’s arrival, Craine did not appear to be at the scene. Then, “a truck, which had been leaving the scene” upon the deputies’ arrival, parked about 75 yards away from the accident in the roadway, when “several subjects exited the vehicle (and) began to yell for me and stated the driver of the Trailblazer was in the pickup truck (and was) highly intoxicated and out of control” according to the arrest citation.

The three individuals (one related to Craine, the other two friends of the suspect), including the driver of the pickup, “were forced to abandon the pickup in the southbound lane of traffic after Craine had physically struck the pickup’s driver,” the citation states, even though the people had arrived at the wreck site with the intention of helping Craine.

In that incident Craine was arrested and charged with DUI, alcohol intoxication in a public place, disorderly conduct, no driver’s license, failure to wear a seat belt, and failure to maintain insurance.
