The Anneta felon with an extensive arrest history, and who led local law enforcement on a high-speed chase before slamming head-on into a Clarkson Police Officer, is facing nearly 25 charges as a result of his actions, including multiple felonies.
On Sunday night, Troy Joseph Toms, 42, led the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office and Clarkson Police Department on a chase that began on Ambassador Shores Drive before ending 25 minutes later on Sadler Lane. The chase culminated when Toms turned around in a field and reentered the roadway, driving directly at Deputies Rick Mehlbauer and Sean Fentress before crashing head-on into Clarkson Officer Blake Elmore.
Toms has been hospitalized with multiple injuries since the crash but on Friday was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
He’s been charged with eight felonies — first-degree assault of a police officer, three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment of a police officer, three counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, and first-degree fleeing or evading police (in a motor vehicle) — along with four counts of third-degree criminal mischief, DUI (aggravating circumstances), reckless driving, driving on a suspended/revoked license, speeding 26 mph over the limit, failure to produce insurance card, disregarding stop sign, leaving the scene of an accident, possession of open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to illuminate head lights, failure to wear a seat belt.
For the first-degree assault of a police officer charge alone, Toms faces up to 20 years in prison.
Toms’ serious arrest history dates back a decade. His history, as well as K105’s coverage of the police chase, can be found here.
