2 inmates escape from Hardin Co. Detention Center annex, 2 guards fired for ‘lax’ supervision

Two inmates have escaped from the Hardin County Detention Center substance abuse program annex.

Kentucky State Police said 33-year-old Carl S. Brooks, of Brandenburg, and 25-year-old John T. Tinsley Jr., of Radcliff, walked away from the annex, a minimum security facility on North Mulberry Street in Elizabethtown, sometime before 11:30 Wednesday morning.

Two guards, who have not been identified, were terminated for “lax” supervision, Hardin County Jailer Josh Lindblom told The News-Enterprise. Lindblom added that the guards did not help the two men escape.

Brooks is described as a white male standing 5-feet-10 and weighing 182 pounds, according to KSP, he has brown hair and blue eyes. Thomas is described as white male standing 5-feet-9 and weighing 140 pounds. He also has brown hair and blue eyes.

Both inmates were being held on probation violations.

State police said the public is asked to not approach either escapee if spotted.
