The Clarkson Police Department has arrested a Leitchfield woman on her second DUI since September 2019.

Monday night at approximately 9:45, Clarkson Officer Blake Elmore was talking with a resident of Brentwood Manor Apartments, at 328 North Patterson Street. As the officer was speaking with the resident, 40-year-old Leslie A. Mercer began to leave the parking lot of the complex in a GMC Envoy. As she did, she struck a curb and failed to put on her seatbelt.

Elmore conducted a traffic stop on Mercer in the parking lot and quickly realized she was under the influence, and driving on a DUI suspended driver’s license.

Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Zane Greer was summoned to the scene where he performed a field sobriety test. Mercer was arrested and charged with her second DUI in the last 10 months.

Police searched Mercer’s GMC and located marijuana and drug paraphernalia

She was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center where she’s been charged with DUI, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving on a DUI suspended license, and failure to wear a seat belt.

In early September, Mercer and her husband were traveling on Brandenburg Road, she in an SUV and he on a motorcycle, when Grayson County Sgt. Fred Norder attempted a traffic stop on the motorcycle. The driver fled before eventually stopping on Charlie Kiper Road.

Within two minutes Mercer arrived at the traffic stop. Police determined Mercer was under the influence, and found an unspecified controlled substance and prescription pills not in a proper container.

In that arrest, along with the DUI, Mercer was charged with possession of a controlled substance (drug unspecified) and having a prescription controlled substance not in its proper container.
