Two traffic stops conducted by the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office only hours apart proved fruitful as two DUI drivers were taken off the road and a fugitive from Butler County was captured.
Thursday morning at approximately 12:30, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Zane Greer was patrolling in the 3000 block of Morgantown Road when he observed a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt traveling south with only one working headlight and a rear license plate not illuminated.
Greer executed a traffic stop on the vehicle and upon making contact with driver, Jeffrey Kimmel and his passenger, 36-year-old Tara F. Embry, both of Morgantown, Greer detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle.
Deputy Sean Fentress arrived on scene and assisted Greer with searching the vehicle where deputies located a syringe containing methamphetamine. Embry admitted to police that the syringe was hers.
Further investigation showed Embry had multiple warrants for her arrest, including for first-degree bail jumping and theft, and that Kimmel was driving under the influence.
Embry was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia and lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center. In addition to the outstanding first-degree bail jumping and theft by unlawful taking charges, she is also facing three failure to appear warrants and two persistent felony offender counts.
Kimmel was charged with his second DUI and driving on suspended license and lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
A few hours earlier, at about 8:00 Wednesday night, Deputy Andy Vincent and Greer were patrolling near the 2600 block of Peonia Road when the deputies noticed a Chevrolet Impala traveling west with an expired tag not designated for the vehicle.
Vincent conducted a traffic stop on the Chevy, being driven by Brian Duford, of Leitchfield, and detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Duford was given a field sobriety test and arrested. He was charged with DUI, no insurance, driving on a suspended license, and improper display of tags along with several other non-moving violations.
He was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.
