Nursing homes hotbeds of COVID-19 activity

As previously reported by K105.com, bolstering the number of COVID-19 cases in many Kentucky counties, including several in the Grayson County region, are clusters of cases in nursing homes.

In Grayson County, 57 (76 percent) of the 75 confirmed COVID-19 cases are either residents or staff members of Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation or Spring View Nursing & Rehabilitation.

In Butler County, at least 73 (51.8 percent) of that county’s 141 cases are tied to Morgantown Care & Rehabilitation (managed by Signature HealthCARE).

At least 22 (84.6 percent) of Edmonson County’s 26 cases are related to Genesis Healthcare Edmonson Center.

In Hopkins County, 59 Ridgewood Terrace Nursing Home residents and 21 staff members have been diagnosed with the virus. The 80 positive cases related to the nursing home represent 39.8 percent of that county’s positive cases. Fifteen resident deaths are blamed on COVID-19.

(Nearly 60 of Hopkins County’s 201 COVID-19 cases have been traced to two revival services at a Dawson Springs church, held on March 15 and 16, according to the Hopkins County Health Department. At least six deaths, and coronavirus cases in Warren, Clark and Muhlenberg counties have been tied to the services.)

Around the state, there are 752 long-term care facility residents who have tested positive for the virus and 311 staff members, in 70 facilities. One-hundred-twenty-six nursing home residents have died from COVID-19, as well as two staff members.

In Adair County, for example, there are 81 confirmed coronavirus cases in that county as of Friday afternoon, with an astounding 79 cases tied to Summit Manor nursing home, also managed by Signature HealthCARE. Seven residents and two staff members have perished from the virus.

In Jackson County, Jackson Manor (again, managed by Signature HealthCARE) has given rise to all 59 of that county’s COVID-19 cases; 39 residents and 20 staff members. Eight residents have died after contracting the virus.

In Kenton County, Rosedale Green nursing home reports 62 COVID-19 positive residents and 22 staff members; 29.4 percent of the county’s 286 cases. Fourteen residents of the facility have died from the virus.

At Graves County’s Mills Health & Rehabilitation Center, 65 residents and 31 employees have tested positive, with 14 residents of the facility passing away from coronavirus. The facility’s 96 COVID-19 cases are 70 percent of the county’s 137 total cases.

In Jefferson County, there have been COVID-19 outbreaks concentrated in five nursing homes — Hillcreek Rehab & Care (20 residents); Landmark at River City (33 residents, seven staff, seven resident deaths); Louisville East Post Acute Care (33 residents, 16 staff); River’s Edge Nursing & Rehab (66 residents, 27 staff, seven resident deaths); and Treyton Oaks Towers (35 residents, 15 staff, 15 resident deaths).

Of Jefferson County’s state-leading 1,352 COVID-19 cases, 306 (22.6 percent) are either nursing home residents or staff members. Thirty-eight (40.9 percent) of the county’s 93 COVID-19 deaths have been long-term facility residents.

Coronavirus outbreak in Central City prison

Boosting Muhlenberg County’s COVID-19 cases are 71 (56.8 percent of the county’s 125 total cases) inmates or staff at Green River Correctional Complex, a minimum/medium security facility, who have tested positive for the virus. Two inmates have died from the disease. There are over 900 inmates being held at the prison.
