The Hart County Jail inmate who walked away from work release Wednesday afternoon has been captured.

Jerry Britt, 37, of Scottsville, was taken into custody by Kentucky State Police on Thursday. He’s been charged with second-degree escape and theft by unlawful taking (auto, $10,000 or more).

Britt fled work detail on Bluegrass Avenue, just south of Horse Cave, by gaining access to a 2007 Lincoln Navigator. Kentucky State Police located the stolen vehicle in the Shanty Hollow area of Warren County.

Britt’s arrest history includes incarceration for trafficking in a controlled substance (methamphetamine), manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine precursors, burglary, theft by unlawful taking (anhydrous ammonia), and tampering with physical evidence.

He was incarcerated in October 2019 on charges including multiple cold checks, theft by unlawful taking (less than $10,000) and three counts of failure to appear.

He’s lodged in the Hart County Jail.
