Fentress, Elmore ‘answer the call,’ graduate from law enforcement training. Fentress to join GCSO, Elmore the Clarkson PD.

The Grayson County Sheriff’s Office and Clarkson Police Department are welcoming two new officers, fresh out of the Department of Criminal Justice Training (DOCJT) academy at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond.

Graduating the arduous 20 week training program earlier this week were Sean Fentress and Blake Elmore.

Fentress will begin working as a full-time deputy with the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office. Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins noted that Fentress graduated at the top of the class in academics, the equivalent of being class Valedictorian. Chaffins also said Fentress, a 2011 graduate of Grayson County High School (GCHS), received a leadership award.

Elmore, who will work as a full-time officer with the Clarkson Police Department, was honored by carrying the guidon for his class at the graduation ceremony. Elmore additionally received a physical fitness award (must be in 80th percentile to win the award).

Clarkson Police Chief Buck Meredith said Elmore, who graduated from GCHS in 2013, is the first-ever Clarkson officer to graduate from the DOCTJ academy.

“We are blessed to have these two fine men protecting and serving our community,” Chaffins said. “I am excited to watch them grow in this fine profession. May God place a hedge of protection over both Sean and Blake as they both begin their careers.”

Meredith said about the two young men completing their training, “I am very proud to welcome Blake and Sean into the brotherhood of law enforcement. The best advice I can give these two lawmen, and anybody starting a career in this profession, is to keep God, their families and the concerns and well-being of their communities above all. Policing is a calling and Grayson County is fortunate these two young men answered the call to serve.”
