UPS will add about 1,000 jobs at its Worldport facility in Louisville.
The delivery giant announced a series of expansion projects that’s estimated to cost about $750 million.
To meet the growing demand being driven by a continuously growing online market, UPS will add 50 new planes to its fleet and build a 262,00 square-foot, $220 million hangar to house and maintain the new aircraft. It’s expected the hangar will be complete by 2022.
“These are $70-an-hour jobs, these are not starting wages,” Gov. Matt Bevin said. “These are significant jobs, significant income, terrific benefits for a world-class company. Of course, it’s going to be a challenge to find people in this immediate community” to fill the position.
Once all the projects are completed and jobs are filled, the state has offered UPS a tax incentive of $40 million over a 15 year period.
UPS is also working on ramp and taxiway improvements, new and renovated offices, and expanding its training facility.
