A suspect is dead as Kentucky State Police investigate an officer-involved shooting in a small Todd County community.

State police said that Tuesday afternoon at approximately 4:30, an officer with the Elkton Police Department and a Todd County deputy sheriff executed a traffic stop on a white pickup truck on East Main Street, in Elkton, a town of about 2,000 residents located 43 miles west of Bowling Green.

At some point during the stop, according to police, the male driver brandished a firearm. Law enforcement then exchanged gunfire with the driver resulting in the man being fatally wounded. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Todd County Coroner’s Office.

Neither officer was injured, according to state police.

The names of the victim and officers involved in the shooting have not yet been released.
