A Leitchfield woman has been arrested on drug charges after rolling up on a traffic stop involving her husband.

Wednesday night at approximately 11:20, Grayson County Sgt. Fred Norder was patrolling Brandenburg Road when he encountered a vehicle traveling at an exceedingly slow rate of speed. As Norder turned around to execute a traffic stop, he said a motorcycle sped off in what appeared to be an attempt to flee him.

Norder caught up with and executed a traffic on the motorcycle in the 200 block of Charlie Kiper Road. He identified the driver as 44-year-old Jody Mercer, of Leitchfield. Within two minutes, Mercer’s wife, 39-year-old Leslie Mercer, of Leitchfield, who had been following her husband in a GMC Envoy, arrived at the traffic stop, according to police.

Deputy DJ Newton arrived on the scene soon after and determined that Leslie Mercer was under the influence. Newton also located an unspecified controlled substance and prescription pills not in a proper container.

Leslie Mercer was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance (drug unspecified), having a prescription controlled substance not in its proper container and her second DUI. Jody Mercer was arrested and charged with careless driving, no driver’s license, no insurance, and no registration.

Both were lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center. Neither is currently listed as an inmate.
