At Monday night’s Leitchfield City Council meeting, council members agreed to finance half of the cost of a new fire truck for the Leitchfield Fire Department.

The truck, which was delivered to the department on Sunday, costs $266,000, with the fire department financing $133,000 of the purchase. The truck was purchased from Pierce Manufacturing and is being financed through PNC Equipment Finance.

The truck will be paid for out of voluntary fire membership dues.

Riley to serve as interim chief

Last week, it was announced that LPD Assistant Chief Brandon Cook would serve as interim police chief after Chief Bryan Langdon leaves his position on Friday. But in a change in course, it was announced that former assistant chief and current code enforcement officer David Riley will serve as interim chief until a permanent chief is hired.

Mayor Rick Embry set no timetable for when a permanent chief will be hired but emphasized that the city will not rush the hiring process.

Stevenson recognized

Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center CEO Wayne Meriwether and Board Chairman Trevor Ray presented Councilman Kelly Stevenson with a token of appreciation in the form of a glass trophy for Stevenson’s work on the Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center Population Health Committee.

Stevenson served on the committee for three-and-a-half years and was instrumental in helping conceptualize multiple community health initiatives, including a smoke-free ordinance. The committee was charged with ensuring the hospital’s goals were met.

“We wanted to recognize Kelly’s service to the community and Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center, as he helped champion the smoke-free ordinance, along with other health initiatives,” Meriwether said, “and for providing outstanding leadership in creating a healthier community.”
