The Cougar football team travelled to McLean County last Friday and suffered a 7-0 loss at the hands of the McLean County Cougars. Grayson County scored touchdowns in the third and fourth quarters of play, but because it was the JV teams on the field, the win went to McLean.
The two teams exchanged punts in the first period of play, which ended in a 0-0 tie. On the first play of the second period, the Cougars punted the ball away with McLean taking over at its own 25-yard line.
A first-down run netted three yards, but on second down, senior running back Landen Capps swept the right side of the line and raced 72 yards for the score that made it 7-0. Capps had earlier, in the first quarter, raced around the left side of the field for an apparent 63-yard touchdown, but the score was nullified by a holding call.
The Cougars did not have a first down until less than five minutes to play in the first half. In seven possessions, the Cougars could manage to gain just 38 yards.
With the JV teams on the field in the third quarter, the Cougars recovered a McLean fumble at the McLean 17-yard line. Four plays later the Cougars were in the end zone when linebacker Dylan Zabel recovered a fumble in the end zone.
The other Cougar score came in the fourth quarter when freshman Michael Wood picked a fumbled pitchout and carried it more than 50 yards to the end zone.
