One of the suspects facing charges related to the murder of a Caneyville resident is one of Ohio County’s 10 Most Wanted.
Wanda Ferguson, 40, is wanted in Ohio County after failing to appear for a pre-trial conference to answer for several charges, including first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree hindering prosecution or apprehension, tampering with physical evidence, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), and possession of drug paraphernalia. Ferguson was arrested several months ago on the charges but was released after posting bond.
Those charges are related to Ferguson being charged in the January 16, 2019, shooting death of her former boyfriend, Johnnie Hayes, 59, of Caneyville, in Ohio County. Adam Lacefield, 31, of Caneyville, has been charged with shooting and killing Hayes as the victim sat in a parked vehicle on Bluff Street, in Rosine.
Additionally accused of being involved in Hayes’ murder is Mandy Decker, 40, of Beaver Dam, who was charged with tampering with physical evidence, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Ferguson, who lived with Hayes on his property in the 2500 block of Richland Road, was shot multiple times on the morning of November 21, 2018, as the couple followed two burglars off Hayes’ property in a vehicle. Hayes and Ferguson followed the two men, who were traveling in separate vehicles, on Richland Road until at least one of the burglars opened fired, striking Hayes and Ferguson, causing Hayes’ Dodge Charger to leave the road.
Hayes and Ferguson were both released from the hospital within days of the shooting.
Then, on December 2, 2018, Hayes found an explosive device in a barn on his property. The Kentucky State Police Bomb Squad was dispatched to the scene where authorities discovered the device was a large bucket with gun powder and other objects inside. KSP detonated the device on the property.
No arrests have been made in either incident.
Anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of Ferguson is asked to contact the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office at 270-298-4444.
