A Caneyville man has been arrested on multiple felony charges after fleeing the Morgantown Police Department.

On Sunday afternoon at approximately noon, the Morgantown PD responded to Hwy 185 (Bowling Green Road) on the report of a reckless driver. Morgantown Police Chief Giles Taylor said that upon making contact with the vehicle, the driver, 35-year-old Nathan E. Sanford, fled police, turning onto Hwy 79 (Caneyville Road).

Taylor said the chase continued for about nine miles before Sanford ran out of gas.

He was taken into custody and charged with two counts of wanton endangerment of a police officer, wanton endangerment, fleeing or evading police, reckless driving, possession of marijuana, driving on a suspended/revoked license, speeding 26 mph or more over the limit, and several other traffic violations.

Sanford was also served with an arrest warrant out of Butler County. He was lodged in the Butler County Detention Center.

Taylor said the Butler County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the pursuit.
