The baby delivered after his mother was shot and killed in Whitley County has passed away.

The four-day-old baby, named Amelia Johnson, died Tuesday night at the University of Kentucky Medical Center. The coroner’s report says the baby died due to severe hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy– the result of a lack of oxygen and blood to the brain, according to media reports. The report lists the manner of death as homicide.

The newborn’s mother, 29-year-old Geri Johnson, of Williamsburg, was killed Saturday after arriving at Baptist Health Corbin hospital suffering from a gunshot wound. The baby was delivered at the Corbin hospital and then transferred to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Police said Johnson’s boyfriend drove her to the hospital. Her death is listed as an open death investigation, and police are not saying if she was murdered.
