Five Boyd County Detention Center deputy jailers have been indicted on manslaughter charges after an inmate died at the troubled jail on November 29.
Kentucky State Police was requested at the jail after authorities found 40-year-old Michael Moore dead at the facility. According to police, Moore arrived at the jail intoxicated and was placed in a restraint chair. The investigation into the incident showed that five deputy jailers, Zackary Messer, Brad Roberts, Colton Griffith, Jeremy Mattox, and Alicia Beller, abused or permitted Moore to be abused, which led to his death.
All five have been charged with manslaughter and taken into custody.
The Boyd County Detention Center has experienced riots, overdoses, inmate deaths, a fire, and multiple escapes over the last 18-months resulting in Jailer Joe Burchett resigning on December 3.
