Grayson County Deputy DJ Newton has been selected 2018 Deputy of the Year in a vote by his peers.
“I am truly humbled to be named GCSO Deputy of the Year,” Newton said about the honor. “I certainly do not do this job for the notoriety; simply put, I love what I do and that I get the opportunity to serve the citizens of Grayson County.”
The 26-year-old Newton has been in law enforcement for three years, first serving with the Leitchfield Police Department beginning in December 2015. In March of this year, he joined the sheriff’s office.
“I’m thankful to have been surrounded early-on by officers in this county that helped to mold me into who I am now,” Newton said. “I also owe a debt of gratitude to the men and women that I’m able to serve with in this county, including our dispatchers, EMS workers, and fire department personnel. It takes a cohesive effort by us all to make it home at night.”
Newton has been instrumental in executing many felony arrests since joining the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office about eight months, most recently, he executed a traffic stop on a vehicle on the Western Kentucky Parkway which resulted in the seizure of methamphetamine, hydrocodone and over $25,000 in cash, as well as two arrests.
