At Monday night’s Leitchfield City Council meeting, Leitchfield Police Chief Bryan Langdon recommended that LPD Cpt. Brandon Cook be promoted to the position of Assistant Police Chief.

City council members approved the move in a unanimous vote.

Cook was elevated to Captain in August of last year when then Assistant Police Chief Langdon became chief after Kevin Henderson was tabbed Grayson County Judge-Executive by Gov. Matt Bevin.

“We’ve worked together for the last few years and he brings a lot of experience to the job,” Langdon said about his decision to hire Cook. “He’s filled the position as Captain for the last year or so, and he has done real well in that capacity. His ability to cover the position of assistant chief, even though he wasn’t, worked in his favor.”

Langdon said the decision to elevate Cook was made after he conducted multiple interviews with candidates.

Cook began his career with LPD in 2000 and was a detective on the Greater Hardin County Narcotics Task Force for three-and-a-half years. Cook’s only interruption as an LPD officer was when he spent 15 months working at Louisville International Airport as a law enforcement officer and fireman.
