(Leitchfield, KY) – For almost 36 years, Bob Williams has answered the call of a first responder for his community.  Over those 36 years of service, it’s been on an entirely volunteer basis that Williams has served on the East Grayson County Fire Department.

For three years in the 1980’s, Williams served as fire chief, but due to time constraints he gave-up that position, only to return to the position in 2001.  Williams has served as fire chief for the past 17 years.

As fire chief, Williams has served with the Grayson Co. Fire Chiefs Association, which is responsible for finding a way to financially support all of the volunteer fire departments throughout Grayson Co.  Williams was the face of the public relations campaign that was brought before the Grayson Co. Fiscal Court many times before they won the fight, and the fire dues were placed on the property tax bills of Grayson Co. citizens just a couple of years ago.

Williams says this has greatly infused the fire departments with the financial resources they need to keep equipment updated, repairs made to their fire department structure and fire trucks.  He said they see very few opt-out of paying the dues each year.

Williams says serving as a first responder is just something that is a part of him; and he hopes to see the next generation of volunteers step-up and serve their community as he is looking at retirement sometime in the near future. Listen below:
