Saturday night at approximately 7:05, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Fred Norder responded to FiveStar, at 105 West White Oak Street, on the report that a vehicle had been stolen from the parking lot.

Upon arriving, Norder found that a 2001 Lexus passenger car had been stolen. Norder said the owner of the vehicle left the car running as he went into the store. The vehicle reportedly exited the parking lot of FiveStar traveling west on West White Oak at a high rate of speed.

Several officers from both the Leitchfield Police Department and Grayson County Sheriff’s Office converged on the area, but were unable to immediately locate the stolen car.

Then, at approximately 8:40, a resident in the 900 block of Frontage Road reported that a vehicle had become hung-up on a lengthy private gravel driveway, with the driver of the vehicle passed out behind the wheel of the car.

LPD Officer Joe Overton was first on the scene and encountered 25-year-old Cody Sermon, of Leitchfield, passed out inside the car. Upon waking Sermon, he refused to exit the vehicle, resulting in Overton physically removing Sermon from the car.

He was arrested and transported to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center to be medically cleared for incarceration. Sermon was then transported to the Grayson County Detention Center where he’s been charged with DUI, theft by unlawful taking, resisting arrest, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle, and driving on a suspended or revoked license. He was also charged with failure to appear.

Assisting at the scene were LPD Officer Eugene Cain, Grayson County Deputy Kelsey Overton and Norder.
