At approximately 3:45 Monday afternoon, Kentucky State Police Troopers were called to South Main Street in Leitchfield after a two-vehicle collision was reported.
Officials say John Riggins, 40, of Bowling Green, was traveling north on South Main Street in a 2011 Ford F-150 while pulling a trailer. Investigators believe that Riggins crossed over into the southbound lane and struck a 1997 Ford Ranger operated by Howard Elmore, 75, of Leitchfield head on.
Deputy Coroner Larry Holeman pronounced Elmore dead at the scene
Riggins was transported to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
Elmore’s passenger, Jeffrey Elmore, 49, was transported to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center and later flown to the University of Louisville for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
The accident is still under investigation by a reconstructionist with Kentucky State Police.
KSP was assisted at the scene by the Leitchfield Police Department, Leitchfield Fire Department, Grayson County EMS, Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Grayson County Coroner’s Office.
K105 will have more on this story once it becomes available.
