Tuesday night at 7:00, the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 300 block of Sharer Drive on the report of a domestic disturbance involving a knife.

As deputies were en route, Grayson County Central Dispatch informed police that a male subject had grabbed a knife and were threatening two females with the weapon. Dispatch also told responding deputies that the man had struck one of the females, according to the arrest report.

Upon Deputy Taylor Logsdon arriving on the scene, he encountered an agitated 39-year-old Jerry Whitehead, of Leitchfield, outside the residence.

The arrest report says that as Dep. Logsdon was speaking with Whitehead, Dep. Rance Whobrey arrived and witnessed Whitehead begin to walk away from Dep. Logsdon, resulting in Dep. Logsdon pulling his taser and “instructing the male subject to stop.”

“The male subject then turned around, staggered his feet, taking a defensive stance,” according to the arrest report. Whitehead was, according to the report, “very irate, swearing and yelling at Deputy Logsdon.”

As he refused to obey verbal commands, deputies took Whitehead “to the ground,” but he continued to resist, with police striking Whitehead in order to gain compliance. Once handcuffed and placed in the back of a cruiser, Whitehead began beating his head against and kicking the car’s cage. Deputies used pepper spray to bring the suspect under control.

One of the female victims said Whitehead struck her in the face with his elbow, with the other female victim telling authorities that when Whitehead grabbed a knife, she attempted to take it away from her. The suspect then pinned the female against the wall.

Whitehead was arrested and lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center where he’s been charged with fourth-degree assault (domestic violence), second-degree wanton endangerment, menacing, and resisting arrest.
