Parents jailed after infant found with infected cigarette burn marks

The parents of a 13-month-old infant were arrested in Laurel County after police found infected cigarette burn marks on the baby’s backside.

Police arrested 26-year-old Jessica Sams and 26-year-old Thomas Tallon, both of Corbin, on a charge of first-degree criminal abuse. Authorities responded to the couple’s residence on Friday night in response to an investigation being conducted by social services, according to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.

The 13-month-old girl was treated at St. Joseph Hospital before being transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

The parents were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.
