School is out and the Extension Office has a great summer cooking class for kids!

The Summer Cooking Savvy class series, “Teen Cuisine” will be held on Friday mornings in July from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 on the following dates:  July 13, 20, and July 27.  Kids aged 12 through 16 are invited to this free series for some summer kitchen fun and hands-on experience in the kitchen.  Participants will make a new recipe at each session that they will get to eat at the end of class.

This year’s theme is “Making Good Nutrition Simple”.  Teens will come away with a new knowledge of basic cooking skills, learn to read a recipe, and analyze food labels all while making healthier food choices.  Also incorporated into the lessons will be measuring skills, knife skills, portion control and much, much more.  Kids will have a great time learning to prepare healthy meals and snack for themselves and their families.

Class size is limited to 8, and advanced registration is required by July 11th.  Parents should come in with their child to check them in and to sign a permission form, but are not required to stay.  All classes are taught by Grayson County Nutrition Education Program Assistant, Robin Felix.  To get signed up or for questions, call the Extension Office at (270) 259-3492.  You should park in the back of the building and enter in the West entrance door.
