Kentucky State Police is currently investigating the death of a two-year-old child found deceased inside of a car.
Saturday night at approximately 6:00, KSP received a 911 call from 5 Big Bear Circle, in Crittenden (Grant County), in reference to an unresponsive two-year-old that was found in a Mercury Grand Marquis.
A neighbor found the child in the car in the owner’s driveway. It’s unclear how long the child had been in the vehicle, according to police.
Once on scene, police attempted life saving measures that were ultimately unsuccessful, according to Kentucky State Police. The toddler was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth Hospital by the Grant County Coroner’s Office.
The investigation is ongoing and an autopsy has been scheduled.
According to police, on a hot day (Friday’s temperatures reached the mid-80s) it only takes about 20 minutes to place a child’s life in danger if left inside a vehicle.
KSP issued the following statement on steps to take to ensure a child is not left in a vehicle:
Kentucky State Police urges parents to Look Before You Leave by placing your purse or bags in the back seat to make yourself turn around when you arrive somewhere; placing your cell phone in the back so you have to turn around to pick it up.
If you are at your residence and unable to locate your child, one of the first places you should look is inside of your vehicle because of the dangers that surround it.
